Who Are We

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki – Department of Physics, the University of Macedonia – Department of Applied Informatics and the software production company INARTECH SA in a collaboration within the framework of the “Innovation Investment Plans” program within the framework of the Operational Programme Central Macedonia 2014-2020 in order to development a software for use on mobile devices for the recognition of Byzantine church hymns.

Our Project

A research proposal

This research proposal, utilizing the need of the faithful for active participation and a better understanding of liturgical events, as well as the new trend of religious tourism, comes to facilitate the faithful through the creation of an anthology (database) of the most important hymns of the Orthodox liturgical ritual. A related goal is to create a system for recognizing hymns and providing information to users (believers, visitors or tourists) about them. In particular, the proposed system will be able to recognize the hymn that the user hears during his stay in the holy temple and provide him with more specific information (historical, musicological, etc.) about it. In case the user is a foreigner, it will be possible to display this information in English. At the same time, in case of non-recognition of the anthem, the possibility of enriching the system’s database with artificial intelligence techniques is provided. The application for recognition will be installed on a mobile device, after receiving instructions from the internet or when the believer enters the religious space.

Ymnodos

Υmnodos is a project that has been funded by the Action “Innovation Investment Plans” of the Region of Central Macedonia, within the framework of the Operational Program “Central Macedonia 2014-2020”. It incorporates the new technologies of artificial intelligence, digital signal processing, and smart mobile devices and develops an integrated software system for characterizing Byzantine hymns, which can easily and easily use information related to each hymn within a church. To achieve the above goal, Hymnodos has also developed an extensible database of popular Byzantine hymns.
